No One likes a Tattle-Tale except for the White House Staff

No One likes a Tattle-Tale, except for the White House Staff

Tattle-tale: One who reports the wrong-doings of others to an authority. A snitch. An Informant.

=================================================

In early August, the White House blog (www.whitehouse.gov/blog) announced the launch of a new website, Whitehouse Health Insurance Reform Reality Check website, (www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck), which, ostensibly, is meant to act as a rumor-control point; a rumor clearing house for people who want to know the real (reality) truth about the Presidents health care reform plan

Included in that blog, is the following statement/request:

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

I already wrote a blog about the new website; the reality of this website is that it is all about politics as usual. “Defenders of the status quo” are liars, and the White House is the source of all truth, and reality.

According to the statement, above, the White House wants us to report our friends and neighbors, as well as strangers, if we feel they are expressing opinions, or passing-on the opinions of others, which we think are ‘fishy’ .

They actually want us to FORWARD ‘fishy’ emails to White House, at flag@whitehouse.gov.

“Fishy” is probably their code word for unAmerican activities, like protesting the Presidents health care reform plan, ala Nancy Pelosi, and Steny Hoyers recent pronouncements

Sigh…… they are asking us to Tattle on each other….LOL…. If this were any other administration, I would be rolling around on the floor in hysterical laughter at the obvious buffoonery of such a request. But, this Administration is serious, and the implications of this request must be taken seriously.

In the first place, the government has no business collecting political information, or any unnecessary information, for that matter, from it’s citizens. We are free citizens, and we are not required to provide the government with personal information, without due process of law.

In the second place, ‘fishy’ can include just about anything. Almost anything new that I read can be called ‘fishy’; they could hardly have chosen a more general, and inclusive word.

This program is clearly meant to intimidate opponents, and curtail free speech. Just think about it; if you know someone who is an ardent supporter of the President, and if you simply pass-on an email, or express your own opinion, you could quite possibly be reported, and wind-up in the White House database/list.

The White House staff defends this by saying that they are not compiling a database, or a list. This is a blatant falsehood; it is a lie. By law, all electronic communications to the White House must be retained, intact, complete with all the information, including names, email addresses, source locations, etc.

All email becomes part of a database the instant it is received at the White House; a database is a list, and is available for their use, at will.

This is the law, and a White House spokesman (see video below) would not even admit that that is the truth; he just kept spouting the White House line that they are not creating lists.

It really doesn’t matter whether, or not, they are actually, physically creating lists at the moment; what matters is that they have the data, and can use it for their own purpose, at any time. No one can convince me that it will not be used for their own political, or otherwise, purposes; it will be too valuable, and too tempting to resist.

If you were on the White House staff, and the President requested a list of those who opposed the health care plan, don’t tell me that you wouldn’t immediately refer to the email database. The temptation would be too great, and there is essentially no legal reason, that I know of, that would preclude you from using the database.

And it is my understanding that such communications are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. If I wanted to know if my information was in their database, I could not find out.

This Tattle-Tale program has implications far beyond the current health care debate. They will essentially have a list of individuals, and emails, who opposed them, now, and who will, quite possibly, in the future, oppose them on future topics. They can use their existing data base to help curtail, and intimidate the opposition on of the impending debate over the Cap and Trade Bill.

A database like this has unending uses in suppressing free speech.

Big Brother The President spent so much time criticizing Bush for infringing on the rights of Americans, and now he has own internal Big Brothereque program of collecting information about those who oppose his views.

To me, this is either an in-your-face-attack on those who oppose the Presidents policies, or, it’s amateur night at the White House, and his staff never heard about the Constitution, and free speech, and Big Brother.

Or maybe they are taking a lesson from Nancy Pelosi, and Steny Hoyer, and truly believe that protesting, and opposing, the health care plan, is un-American.

Either way, it is disgraceful, and shameful.

BigBrother
The White House needs to go out and buy some popcorn, and candy, and have the whole staff spend an evening watching George Orwells story/movie, “1984″, to see what kind of world that they want to create; where there is no free speech, and where all speech is continuously revised to fit the current political reality.

And that is just my opinion.
