The following quote is from one of many articles I found on the internet that talk about unsavory remarks made by President Obama’s Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel.
And I Quote:
“Aides to President Barack Obama acknowledged Tuesday White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel ….. reportedly scolded a group of liberal strategists for attacking wayward Democrats over health care, dismissing the suggestion the White House alienate moderate Blue Dogs as “f–ing retarded.”
Of course, the ‘f-ing retarded’ remark is what has garnered all the adverse attention, and rightly so.
Emanuel has dutifully made phone calls, and apologized to the ‘Politically Correct’ persons, and/or organizations, in what has become the usual response to these types of remarks.
Some folks are calling upon the President to fire Emanuel, and Obama is hanging tough and won’t fire him, and is, I assume simply waiting for the furor to subside, and disappear, as often does happen.
In this case, I hope the furor does not disappear. This incident says too much about the Chief of Staff, and the Obama White House, in general, and we need to hold their feet to the fire on this one.
We all know guys like Emanuel. They are better than all of us; they were born that way. They blurt-out these sorts of stupid, and insensitive remarks, and are totally oblivious to the feelings of others. They think it is okay to be rude, and abusive, and intimidate their staffs, and anyone else within their sphere of influence.
I’ll bet dollars to donuts, that his “f-ing”remark, and similar other denigrating remarks are the norm for him, and not the exception. I haven’t heard anyone defending his remark as being just a silly slip, or a momentary lapse in decorum. And, even if it were, there is still no possible excuse.
Emanuel’s “f–ing retarded” remark was beyond insensitive; it was absolutely despicable, and ranks with the lowest form of uncivilized behavior. It was scummy.
It is not just about insulting folks who have mental disabilities, as in ‘retarded’, which, in itself is disgusting, it is also about just simple, every day common decency in the way that you treat other folks.
I mean, if he had called them ‘f-ing idiots’, it would be just as scummy.
He has a reputation for being a “profane, hyperactive attack dog”, and I guess he does live-up to that reputation. In my world, as a boss, he would be known as an a**hole, and it would be true.
Who are these folks that he insulted that they let themselves be treated in such a manner ? And how about his staff ? Don’t they have pride in themselves ? Don’t they have the courage to reject such treatment ?
(In fairness, maybe it is those self-same folks who actually revealed the statement; if so, then I way say: “way-to-go”.)
If Obama had a single hair on his a**, he’d take Emanuel to the wood shed, and ‘remind’ him that his ugly, and rude, and untoward behavior reflects on the President of the United States, period, and that he needs to change his ways.
But, that is not going to happen, is it ? These are liberals, and they don’t need to actually be concerned with the feelings of other folks; they only need to SAY that they are concerned, in order to maintain their credentials.
Obama and Emanuel must be a good team; they are two of a kind; otherwise, why would Obama defend him ? Obama may not be the ‘attack-dog’ type, but, like Emanuel, he doesn’t mind making thoughtless and snarky remarks about other folks.
We’ve all heard his speeches that rag on Republicans, and the snarky little smirks, and giggles that he makes, and encourages in his audience, when he denigrates those he says he wants to ‘cooperate with’.
And he, himself, has had to eat his own words. He made remarks on national TV, making fun of the ‘Special Olympics’.
And how about his bigoted, smarmy ‘typical white person’ remarks, or how about when he said on national TV that the Cambridge police officers were ’stupid’ for simply performing their duties.
Obama seems to like the “in-your-face, I’m better-than-you, style”; perhaps that is why he picked Emanuel. Look at his 20+ year association with Rev Wright, whom he considered a close friend, and Wright’s well publicized, and clearly racist, and bigoted tirades against white folks. A person doesn’t subject himself that for two decades, unless he likes it.
Maybe Obama could actually get more cooperation from Congress if he didn’t have an ‘attack dog’ between himself, and Congress, who tries to abuse, and intimidate those folks he needs work with.
In this case, his abusive behavior was directed at friendly Democrats, and his staff. How does one get anything done by alienating your own people ?
It makes no sense to me.
And that is just my opinion.

As my friend in North Andover says, “This isn’t about politics; it’s about decency. I am not speaking as a political figure but as a parent and as an everyday American wanting my child to grow up in a country free from mindless prejudice and discrimination, free from gratuitous insults of people who are ostensibly smart enough to know better… Have you no sense of decency, sir?”

Fearsome Foursome
(Obama’s close circle of advisors). Excellent article.
Quote about Rahm Emanuel:
In addition to hurling frequent profanities at people within the administration, Mr Emanuel has alienated many of Mr Obama’s closest outside supporters. At a meeting of Democratic groups last August, Mr Emanuel described liberals as “f***ing retards” after one suggested they mobilise resources on healthcare reform.
“We are treated as though we are children,” says the head of a large organisation that raised millions of dollars for Mr Obama’s campaign. “Our advice is never sought. We are only told: ‘This is the message, please get it out.’ I am not sure whether the president fully realises that when the chief of staff speaks, people assume he is speaking for the president.”
